For some time now our name has changed to: “Holistic practice for animal & human”. Previously, mainly animals were treated in the practice, but that is certainly no longer the case.
Human therapist P. atricia Maltha-Smith explains what it is like for her to treat in such a mixed practice: “In my opinion, humans and animals are inextricably linked. For humans it can be a conscious choice to form a bond with an animal, for an animal it (apparently) seems to be different.
At Den Hoek we see every day how the ‘owners’ and their beloved animals are closely linked. People are very motivated to invest in their animal that has health problems. As a human therapist I come across the animals in the ‘corridors’ of the practice: horses, dogs, cats.
As soon as you enter the main building at Den Hoek, there is immediately to the left the waiting room, where the dogs and cats wait with their owners for “their” vet to pick them up. To the left of the practice, opposite the desk, are the horses in the treatment booths.
The horses usually have an alert attitude upon arrival, but usually release their tension quite quickly as soon as the first contact with the veterinary therapist / veterinarian arises.
The dogs willingly walk with their owners when they are taken by the vet to a treatment room. As they pass by, a few dives behind the counter curiously.
All this offers a special sight every time.
