Horseflex Fleawort (also known as psyllium seed) is a supportive feed for horses to aid digestion and gut health that is made from whole seeds. It is 100% natural.

What is flaxseed (psyllium)?
The seeds come from the plant Plantago Ovata. This plant has other peculiarities besides its unusual appearance. In the seed coats of the plant there is a kind of gummy mucilage. When combined with water, it can transform into a bulky mass in the stomach. Fleawort additionally did not get its name for nothing: in fact, the seeds look a bit like fleas.

When to give psyllium seeds to a horse?
Fleawort is commonly given to horses as a supportive feed when the horse eats (too much) sand. Eating sand is common in horses and it often occurs unnoticed through feed or while grazing. Sand is eliminated through the intestines and feces, but if a horse ingests more sand than normal, it carries several risks. Psyllium seeds help remove sand from the stomach and intestinal tract of horses. The psyllium seed creates a jelly-like sticky mass in the intestines to which the remaining sand sticks. In this way, the sand is still efficiently disposed of. The use of psyllium seed for your horse
Psyllium seed is to support a horse’s normal intestinal passage. It supports the removal of sand from the intestines. This makes it very suitable for horses that are in a paddock or a bare pasture. This is because these horses are often more likely to ingest sand. Besides supporting the intestines, flaxseed also contributes to healthy digestion.

How much flaxseed per day for horses?
The dosage of fleawort varies from horse to horse. It should be considered whether it is a pony or a horse, but in addition, it also depends on the sand intake. This should also be taken into account. The feed recommendation for preventive use is to give a pony a course of 50-150 grams per day every 4 weeks for about 7 days (depending on sand intake). The amount of fleawort per day during the cure for an adult horse is 100-300 grams (depending on sand intake). If in doubt about the amount, always consult an expert or veterinarian. Fleawort is only an aid in the removal of sand. Sand eating in horses
Sand eating is common in horses and usually occurs unnoticed through feed or while grazing. This sand is then expelled by the intestines through the feces. However, if your horse ingests more sand than normal, problems can arise in the intestines. If your horse eats too much sand, eventually sand colic may even occur. To deal with the problem, it’s helpful to identify the cause of the sand eating. Our blog tells you everything you need to know about sand eating in horses. Administration of HorseFlex Floorseed
HorseFlex Floorseed can be given either wet or dry. This has no effect on efficacy. If you want to feed fleawort wet, you can first make a porridge with water and mix it directly with the daily feed. It is important not to let the food stand, but to offer it immediately. The binding effect of psyllium seed for horses starts immediately. Feeding recommendation for preventive use:
every 4 weeks a cure of approximately 7 days. Pony: 50 – 150 grams per day (depending on sand intake)*
Horse: 100 – 300 grams per day (depending on sand intake)* *In case of acute application, the dosage may be increased to 1 gram of psyllium seed per kilogram of body weight. When in doubt, always consult an expert or veterinarian. Fleawort is an aid.
