Hot flashes and night sweats are the most common symptoms during menopause. They are often accompanied by feelings of agitation and irritation. A (rapid) decrease in estrogen and progesterone is the cause of this.
In Chinese medicine, these transitional symptoms are referred to as heat symptoms, often caused by a Kidney-yin void. In addition to hot flashes and night sweats, this can cause symptoms such as palpitations, agitation, feeling nervous or other mood swings.
Chinese medicine is all about energy and keeping it flowing smoothly. You can imagine that if there is a shortage of energy somewhere or energy is stagnant that this process is disrupted. This causes complaints, which in turn can cause stress or irritation that will increase complaints even more.
Acupuncture is particularly suited to break this process so that hormone balance will recover, energy can circulate again and low energy can be nourished. As a result, symptoms will disappear.
