In our practice, we provide customized vaccinations. With our vaccination schedule, your dog has good protection against the various infectious diseases, but is not vaccinated unnecessarily.
Leptospirosis (Weil’s disease) and kennel cough are vaccinations that must be given annually, but are not mandatory. Some dog shelters or walking services do require the kennel cough vaccination, because it is highly contagious.
For Parvo, Distemper and Hepatitis, your dog will be vaccinated every three years according to a regular schedule. To check whether a vaccination is necessary, we titrate by means of the VacciCheck. This is a blood test that indicates whether your dog still has enough antibodies and is therefore still sufficiently protected against these diseases.
In this way it is regularly possible to skip a vaccination if there are sufficient antibodies and we do not have to unnecessarily burden the immune system with a vaccination. This is stated in the passport and is therefore approved for guest houses and shows.
Why VacciCheck?
VacciCheck is useful for animals that are very old, animals that are hypersensitive to the vaccination, (chronically) sick animals, animals where the history of vaccinations is unknown or in all other cases where you want to vaccinate as little as possible and still want to ensure adequate immunity status and protection of your dog.
The test can be used on puppies from 6 weeks old.
How often should this blood test be performed?
We use the test with puppies from 6 weeks of age to determine the right time to vaccinate. There are puppies that have received high maternal antibodies from the mother, which makes vaccination unnecessary.
It is also possible to titrate 3 weeks after the last vaccination, to determine whether the inoculations have taken effect.
In older dogs, titering is necessary every year or every three years to see if there are enough antibodies.
